Police Review Board Discusses Transparency and Taser Policy
COLUMBIA - Wednesday night, the Citizen's Police Review Board met to discuss a full agenda of issues facing the Columbia community.
The majority of the meeting was focused on a presentation on behalf of Columbia's Police Officer's Association. Issues discussed during the presentation focused on the issue of board transparency. The topic stems from the board's previous decision to hold meetings that are closed to the public.
There is also a new mediation program in the works. To improve the existing program the board is looking at cities such like San Francisco and Kansas City to bring their successful methods to Columbia.
The board also reviewed the taser policy. Community members spoke out against the current policy, as some believe excessive force is being used by police officers when tasering. The next Citizen's Police Review Board meeting will be held on June 8th.
