Possible storms postpone statewide severe weather drills
COLUMBIA - A statewide tornado drill and MU mass alert and warning system test were postponed on Tuesday due to the possibility of threatening weather.
The Boone County 9-1-1 Center planned to participate in the statewide tornado drill Tuesday, but moved it to Thursday, due to possible severe weather.
KOMU 8 News Meteorologist Kenton Gewecke said, "There could be some pop-up thunderstorms that turns severe with hail, damaging winds, and tornadoes."
The tornado drill would encourage schools, businesses, residents and government agencies to seek shelter as if a real threat was occurring.
"Tornado drills are always on clear weather days," said Gewecke. "You don't want to scare people into thinking something's happening when there's actually not."
The University of Missouri mass alert and warning system test was postponed as well. It will now be conducted at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday.
