"I think marijuana absolutely no doubt has a negative impact on a person's short-term memory and has a negative influence on their motivation level. It's very important to me to have our students be successful."
Viets' next step is to persuade politicians to consider a state law protecting medical marijuana use.
"A great majority of the public, 78% in the most recent national poll, support allowing doctors and patients to decide when marijuana should be able to be used medically," he said. "It has been demonstrated to be uniquely effective in the treatment of many of the symptoms of some very serious ailments."
