Powerball Ruling Rattles MO Lottery
If the decision stands, lottery officials fear it could have an impact elsewhere. The Missouri Lottery says it's pondering its next legal step after a state appeals court ruled earlier this week that Missouri must pay the prize even though the ticket was turned in nearly a year after the drawing, after the six-month deadline.
The court says information printed on the back of the lottery ticket naming the six-month window was not a valid contract and purchasers wouldn't know about the terms until after they'd already bought the ticket.
Powerball is played in 28 states.
