BLUE SPRINGS (AP) - Police say a water-balloon prank may have led to a fiery crash that killed a Kansas City-area boy and injured four other people. Sixteen-year-old Leonard Hotmer of Blue Springs died late yesterday in the two-vehicle crash in eastern Jackson County. Police say someone in the pickup truck Hotmer was in tossed a water balloon that hit an oncoming vehicle, which turned around and gave chase. The driver of the pickup sped up to get away, and moments later the truck ran a stop sign and collided with an SUV. Hotmer was airlifted to a hospital where he was pronounced dead while rescuers cut two of the other teens from the wreckage. The SUV driver was rushed to a hospital but is expected to recover.
