Precautionary boil advisory for southwest Columbia
COLUMBIA - Columbia Water & Light issued a precautionary boil advisory on Monday.
Residents around the 600 Thornbrook subdivision in southwest Columbia would be notified by phone, the agency said.
Columbia Water & Light advises customers to boil water for three minutes before using it for cooking or drinking; to not consume ice from an automatic ice maker; and to wash dishes and food contact surfaces by immersing for one minute in clean tap water that contains one teaspoon of unscented bleach per gallon of water.
The Missouri Department of Natural Resources requires utilities to call for boil advisories when the pressure drops below 20.
Columbia's water division staff planned to monitor and do more research in the Thornbrook area to ensure there was no problem with the water distribution system that can cause a drop in water pressure.
