Proposed Changes in Snow Removal
COLUMBIA - The City Council began looking at changing its snow removal system Monday night.
The council plans to reduce the number of priority roads. This would mean snow plows could get to residential areas faster.
The council may also change the city's salt system. Currently there is only one salt dome and it is in Ward 2. Salt trucks take 70 min to do a round trip from the salt dome to the 5th ward. Gary Kespohl said he wanted to look at possibly adding another salt dome to shorten the amount of time it takes trucks to serve the wards. The last salt dome cost $750,000 and Kespohl thinks another one would be similar in price.
Kespohl said the city received a lot of complaints about the snow removal procedures last February and he said the city wants to improve the system.
