Prosecutor says no charges in Springfield shooting death
SPRINGFIELD — A Missouri prosecutor says no charges will be filed in the November fatal shooting death of a Springfield man after an argument over rental property.
The Springfield News-Leader reports Greene County prosecutor Dan Patterson said Friday that evidence indicates the Nov. 19 fatal shooting of 23-year-old Alex Gipson was justified under Missouri's self-defense law.
Patterson said in a memo to police that there was no question that Gipson was shot multiple times by Mark Faegre and Ryan Culbertson-Faegre.
But he said witness statements consistently indicated that Gipson was the initial aggressor and neither Faegre nor Culbertson-Faegre drew their weapons until Gipson confronted them with his.
Patterson said evidence also showed that Gipson fired his weapon first.
