Protesters show up during Gov. Parson's MU commencement speech
COLUMBIA - The debate over Missouri's abortion bill came to MU on Saturday.
Protestors were dressed in white bonnets and red capes similar to characters from the television show "The Handmaid's Tale" during the commencement ceremony for MU's College of Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources on Saturday evening.
Witnesses say the protestors sat silently amongst the crowd and stood only during Governor Mike Parson's speech.
Police stood beside the group during their peaceful protest and escorted them out of the arena after Parson's address.
Parson is expected to sign a bill that would ban abortions after eight weeks of pregnancy.
