Public Works Struggle to Clear Neighborhood Roads
COLUMBIA - Boone County and Columbia Public Works spent the day salting and clearing highways, but struggled to clear the majority of residential roads in the surrounding areas.
Neighborhoods are often saved for last when dealing with snow removal, but Thursday around 3pm, many Columbia residents told KOMU 8 News they hadn't seen a snow plow on their streets.
Boone County Public Works Superintendent of Road Management, Bryan Boyce, said snow plows on Highway 63 and Route WW in Columbia found themselves stuck in traffic jams. He added many other problems occurred throughout the day describing the roads as "a mess."
Many residential neighborhoods had cars stranded throughout the streets as of 7pm.
Boone County Public Works said it will continue to salt and clear residential roads for as long as needed Thursday night.
