Randolph County Sales Tax on a Roll
Linda Thompson has worked for almost two years in a downtown Moberly flower shop where, she said, business is looking up.
"We feel like we've grown," she explained.
And the county's May tax reports show just how much.
"As far as the records go back that I have, this was an all-time record on the amount of sales tax that came in, in any one month," said Jim Myles, county presiding commissioner.
Myles said the county has increased collections almost 8% from last year.
"I think that is a sign that our economy in Randolph County is very good." Myles added. "Our economy in the nation is good, and it's carrying over to here."
Area business owners agree.
"I think the Moberly people work together, the businesses work together, Thompson said."
Commissioners said Randolph County could collect nearly $100,000 more than last year if sales continue to be strong.
