Rare Illustrations On Display
The display shows the work of Thomas Benton, a native of Neosho, Missouri. In 1939 Benton was commissioned to illustrate a special edition release of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. Upon completion of the project, Benton donated all the original pen and ink drawings to the State Historical Society.
"This is a rare opportunity to see all the drawings together, so you can walk through and view them sequentially as though you were reading pages from a book, but you're looking at illustrations," art curator Joan Stack said.
The exhibit is on display at the State Historical Society until Dec. 16. It's free and open to the public.
