Regency Trailer Park Residents Get Legal Guidance
COLUMBIA - Dozens of residents from Columbia Regency Mobile Home Park gathered Tuesday to listen to a presentation on their rights against a proposal to turn the trailer park into student housing.
Michael Carney, housing attorney of Mid-Missouri Legal Services, told residents they have certain rights under the law. For instance, the property owner must inform them in writing 120 days before they must leave. Also, the owner can not raise rent in that 4 month period.
Sixth ward councilwoman Barbara Hoppe attended the meeting and told residents she would do everything she can to help.
The Planning and Zoning commision will meet Thursday to discuss the proposal. Hoppe said the city council could discuss it in late October, at the earliest.
