Reintegration court aims to lower the rate of criminals returning to prison. More than fifteen percent of criminals return to prison after one year of freedom.
The program works to prepare inmates to re-enter society. Program participants will learn skills like how to write a resume and find a job while getting housing and transportation assistance.
"They'll come back and be a productive part of Columbia and Boone County as employees, as family members," Reintegration Court Administrator Blair Campmier said.
The Reintegration Court is modeled after a program in Indiana. A grant from the state will pay for the program, which begins July 5.
