Reponses to Target 8
This week, you wrote us about a recent Target 8 investigation on the safety of the B2 Bombers at Whiteman Airforce Base
A viewer named Rick wrote us saying,
"What a disgusting story. I can't believe KOMU would stoop so low as to attack the folks at Whiteman even though they can't do anything about the situation. The whole story is no more than a 'what-if'. The likelihood a tornado would strike there is so unbelievably remote there shouldn't be any story about the 'gamble' in keeping the stealths there."
Another viewer named Dave wrote,
"First of all, did it occur to anyone that it would cost more to build a tornado-proof hangar, if indeed such a structure exits, than to simply repair or replace a damaged airplane? Does KOMU house it's transmitter in a tornado-proof structure, after all the station has a duty to the community to warn us about severe weather? Shame on KOMU and NBC for allowing this stupid non-story to air. "
KOMU managing editor Randy Reeves responds,
"I was kind of suprised by the word attack really never thought of this as an attack on the people at Whitman Airforce Base. What we thought this was was a 46 billion dollar tax gamble. And the question is are we protecting those tax dollars in the best possible way? I think our research is showing we are not."
