The Missouri River at Jefferson City has risen nearly a foot since last night's ten o'clock newscast. The current level is 27.62 feet. The river started rising Monday and should continue to rise over the next few days topping out Sunday evening near 31.5 feet. As the water continues to rise, local and state officials are keeping a close eye on the situation.

And more information comes out today about a natural disaster that's already in the history books. The Kaiser Family Foundation will release a major house-to-house study of New Orleans residents and their experiences during Hurricane Katrina. The study looks at their ongoing challenges as well.

The Virginia Tech tragedy comes under scrutiny this morning. The state's governor will open a hearing concerning the Virginia Tech massacre. It's the first public meeting of the independent review panel that's looking into what happened on the campus. Some witnesses will testify in public, others in private. Governor Tim Kaine has asked the panel to issue a preliminary report by August.
