Road Conditions Mixed for Super Bowl Sunday
COLUMBIA - Overnight snow on top of some remaining ice makes road conditions a mixed bag on Sunday morning. In Columbia, main roads are mostly clear, with some icy patches yet to melt off from traffic and expected sunshine. Neighborhood streets have snow over ice in many places. Most are navigable, but drivers will find slick spots frequently.
Many churches have cancelled services for Sunday, but most said the cancellations are due to poor parking lot and sidewalk conditions.
Statewide, MoDOT also reports a mixed bag of conditions. Most of Interstate 70 is clear, though there are some icy and snowy patches in the passing lane. By contrast, Highway 50 between Jefferson City and Sedalia is still mainly snow and ice covered, making travel there slow.U.S. 63 between Columbia and Jefferson City has one mostly clear lane, while other parts of the highway north and south of that stretch have many covered parts.
Temperatures will only warm to about 20 degrees Sunday, but a mostly sunny sky should bring on more road melting, with the threat of a refreeze Sunday night.
