Road Conditions Worsen as Temperatures Drop
COLUMBIA - The first snowfall of the winter on Thursday is accompanied by some treacherous road conditions. The Columbia area received about one inch total, but the main contributor was high winds. Gusts as high as 50 mph made visibility difficult in the snow.
"My husband drove me to work." said Columbia resident Sondra Brown. "He didn't want me to drive." Avoiding driving during difficult winter weather is one of the best things you can do to stay safe.
Temperatures during the day Thursday were in the mid-30s, and since the roads were still warm, it was difficult for the snow to stick. However Thursday night as temperatures drop into the teens, the cold and the winds may cause ice to form. This is especially likely on bridges and highway overpasses.
