COLUMBIA - The Rock Bridge High School girls basketball team is 18-3 heading into tonight's game against Jefferson City, and is riding a 10-game winning streak. More impressive though, is their current number one ranking in the state of Missouri.

Most good high school teams rely on a simple combination--hard work, above-average talent, and battle-tested seniors ready to lead. This team, however, is relying on something else, sisterly intuition.

The team features three sets of sisters, including a set of twins. There is senior co-captain and point guard Lindsey Cunningham and her freshman sister Sophie; injured sophomore forward Bri Porter and her freshman sister Cierra; and the Cheadle twins, Chayla and Kayla.

What's propelled this team to it's great success? All the major players for this team seem to agree.

"I think it's our team chemistry," Lindsey Cunningham said.

Bri Porter agreed saying, "Probably chemistry, our team gets along very well."

"Well, our chemistry is BIG," Chayla Cheadle said.

How about head coach Jill Nagel?

"The way they have come together with their team chemistry is what has allowed us to go on a good run here lately."

Some of the sisters have dreamed about this day for a long time.

"We've been playing with each other for forever in the driveway, and to actually be on the same team in a competitive setting, has been a lot of fun," Cunningham said.

What about sibling rivalry?

"A lot of times I think people think that when you have sisters on the team, there is going to be a bunch of fighting amongst themselves," Nagel said, "that's just not the case."

That hasn't stopped the younger Cunningham from critiquing her sister's game.

"She's not the typical freshman sister, she definitely thinks she's the senior in the group."

The Bruins are hoping these family ties pave their way to a state title.
