Rock Bridge Showdown with Jefferson City
They have just one win in the first four weeks of play, with a showdown this week against the Jefferson City Jays. They were given the business, outscored 112-52 on the way to an 0-3 record. But last week, the Bruins broke through 35-25 win over Hazelwood West.
Head coach A.J. Ofodile says, "Anytime you start off 0-3, you start to feel like you've got a monkey on your back, especially the way we've lost, you feel like you can't do anything right."
But with one in the win column, the Bruins are ready for the Jefferson City Jays.
"It's gonna be huge, you know, after getting that first win under our belt we're gonna come out confident and ready to play," says quarterback Jake Morse. "We just gotta show everybody what we got, so we're ready."
"I think there is a heightened sense of urgency in that our guys really want to win this game, we don't want be humiliated by the local teams," says Ofodile.
A win against the state-ranked Jays would put Rock Bridge back among the elite teams in the area, and they plan on doing just that against their rival.
"I've heard a lot from a lot of people around the school, teammates, its a big rivalry," Morse says. "And they always gotta put that in your ear and they let you know, so I'm definately excited to come out and play in front of these people, so it'll be fun."
