Roll Cart Proposal Comes Back to Council
COLUMBIA - The city will present its revised proposal for trash roll carts during Monday night's city council meeting. Some of the changes that will be in this new proposal include, changing the pilot from six months to three months, focusing on specific neighborhoods instead of the testing the whole city and renting trucks to make the pilot more realistic.
There is still criticism surrounding the pilot program. Many city employees are concerned about losing their jobs because of the trucks automate pickup. Senior citizens are concerned with the physical toll of moving the roll carts to the curb.
The public works department said Monday the version of the pilot will cost more than $69,000.
