Routine traffic stop leads to car chase, Columbia man in jail
COLUMBIA - Deputies arrested a Columbia man Sunday after they said he drove away during a routine traffic stop and led them on a car chase.
The Boone County Sheriff's Department said a deputy tried to pull over 25-year-old Sherman Collins for registration violations near the intersection of St. Charles Road and Lake of the Woods Road, but Collins didn't stop.
The sheriff's office said Collins drove carelessly and ran several stop signs.
Collins eventually stopped his car near St. Charles Road and Demaret Drive, and deputies arrested him on multiple charges including driving while revoked, careless and imprudent driving and resisting arrest.
Collins was in the Boone County Jail as of Sunday night.
