Royals avoid series sweep in extras against Indians
CLEVELAND - The Royals fended off the Indians to comeback in a 9-8 victory.
The Royals started off strong in the 2nd inning, with two runs. By the 3rd inning Kansas City had the 3-0 lead over the Indians.
Cleveland did not go down easy. In the 7th inning, Kevin Plawecki tied the game up at three with a shot to center.
The Royals went on to score five runs in the 8th inning with a two-run home run from Jorge Soler, and a two-run double from Nicky Lopez.
It was a tight ball game until the end, when Cleveland's Franmil Reyes and Francisco Lindor both homered to tie the game at eight. The teams sent the game to extra innings.
Ryan O'Hearn hit his 2nd home run of the game to bring the game to 9-8 in the 10th inning.
Ian Kennedy earned the win (1-2), while Nick Goody suffered the loss (3-1). Jorge López earned his first career save.
The Royals will start a four-game series with the Athletics on Monday at Kauffman Stadium.
