KANSAS CITY - The last time the Kansas City Royals won the World Series, 25 players on the current active 40-man roster had not yet been born.

It's been 29 years since the Commissioner's Trophy has made a stop in KC.

Now in 2014, there's a chance it could come back and this time there's a new historic trend for the series - the cost of ticket prices.

According to the ticket search engine, SeatGeek, the average price of a ticket for games one and two at Kauffman Stadium is $881. The only host city with a higher average cost for games one and two since 2010 was that year's San Francisco/Texas series where the average ticket cost fans $888.

Currently, fans wanting to attend games three and four in San Francisco would have to pay almost $1000.

SeatGeek told KOMU 8 News there are fewer than 3,000 tickets listed for resale for game two.

The company also said that ticket prices for games one and two started to increase on Oct. 19, after a decline. The average price for games one and two tickets started at $1,037, while tickets for games three and four have increased from $699 on Oct. 15 to $1,056 on Oct. 21.

Greg Hiner and his wife traveled from western Illinois for game two and said attending the game was a must. Greg Hiner said he's been rooting for both teams for four decades.

"It's a big one. It's a dream come true. I've been supporting both teams for over 40 years so it's a once in a lifetime opportunity," he said.

Hiner said the money spent is well worth it to see both of his teams play in the Fall Classic.

"It cost me $700. My son looked it up about five days later and they were going for $1100."

Not all Royals fan felt it was worth the cost.

Kelly Bauer lives in Overland Park and spent game one of the series in the parking lot. He said paying more was out of the question.

"As much as I'd love to be there, a thousand plus dollars a ticket - my house and my own TV really sound great."
