Royals lose lead late
PITTSBURGH - The Kansas City Royals were unable to hold on to an eighth inning lead Monday night, as they fell to the Pittsburgh Pirates by a score of 7-6.
Both Alex Gordon and Ryan O'Hearn had big nights for the Royals, each going 2-4 with two RBI's.
A four-run fourth inning gave the Royals the lead, and an eighth inning home run from O'Hearn added some insurance.
Things took a turn in the Pirates direction in the bottom of the eighth, though. RBI's from Pablo Reyes and Starling Marte brought the score even heading into the ninth.
The Pirates were able to ride the momentum, and a single by rookie Jacob Stallings scored Adam Frazier, giving Pittsburgh the walk-off win.
With the loss, the Royals fall to 52-98 on the season. Game two of the series in Pittsburgh will be at 6:05 Tuesday evening, with Eric Skoglund slated to get the start for the Royals.
