Royals walk off in extras
KANSAS CITY - The Kansas City Royals defeated the Chicago White Sox Monday night in ten innings by a score of 4-3.
Brian Goodwin led of the bottom of the tenth with a double for the Royals. Nine-hole hitter Alcides Escobar came up next with the intention to sacrifice Goodwin to third, but once he got the bunt down, White Sox pitcher Jeanmar Gomez turned and threw to third. The throw sailed into left field, and Goodwin was easily able to score, giving the Royals the 4-3 victory.
Whit Merrifield led off the game for the Royals with a solo home run, and Ryan O'Hearn tied the game at three in the sixth inning with a solo homer of his own.
Royals pitcher Jakob Junis turned in another strong start as he went eight innings, giving up seven hits with five strikeouts.
The Royals' record improves to 48-95 with the win. They are back in action against the White Sox Tuesday night, as Brad Keller is expected to get the start.
