CARUTHERSVILLE - Rural communities in Missouri's Bootheel are increasing suicide prevention programs, after five young men killed themselves in recent months. Four young men hanged themselves in clothes closets between July and November. The other shot himself. Law officers said they have no evidence of a direct link among the deaths, although some and possibly all of the victims knew each other. Students are learning how to talk to friends who are stressed or in trouble. They're being told about emergency hot lines and to notify adults immediately when there's a concern.
