School Board Votes on Contractor for New Gymnasiums
COLUMBIA - School board officials voted Monday night to award a 11.8 million dollar contract to Sircal Contracting Inc. to build new gyms at Hickman and Rock Bridge High Schools.
Chris Davis, the lead architect, said the project is set to begin for both high schools within the next two weeks. Right now each high school only has one gym to serve about 1,800 students. A new gym at each school will provide extra education classes and athletic facilities.
Davis said Rock Bridge High School will have a brand new auxiliary gym with the lower level including facilities such as a weight room, wrestling room, and coaches offices.
Hickman High School will have a brand new competition gym, there will be replacements of some vocational classrooms, and the upper level will include a culinary classroom and computer labs.
August 2013 is the projected completion date for both high schools.
