School Bond Approved
Construction is scheduled to start new in spring and will not affect taxes.
Science teacher Benji Dorson said he is looking forward to having a new science lab.
"I'm really excited as a classroom teacher to have the new facilities, and I'm excited for our kids," Dorson said. "It's going to give them a lot of opportunities that they haven't had in the past."
The last time New Franklin High School was renovated was in 1984. The school will use $500,000 of the bond for the new heating and cooling system and the remaining $350,000 for classroom renovations.
"We have saved a lot of money as a district with the heating and cooling system," said New Franklin Elementary Principal Pam Chitwood. "We don't have to rely on natural gas anymore, so getting the high school involved in that will save the district even more money."
