Schulte Earns Top AMC Nods, Owls Nab Five Overall Spots

WALNUT RIDGE, AR -- The William Woods University softball team saw five players earn all-American Midwest Conference recognition for the 2012 season - four first team selections and one honorable mention nod - as the accolades were announced following the AMC Championship game on Friday. Kelsey Schulte wrapped her career at WWU with her fourth straight first team all-AMC selection.

Schulte appeared in all 50 games for the Owls on the year, leading the team with six triples - good for 13th in the NAIA - en route to a .461 slugging percentage and a .287 batting average. She also had a team-high four home runs on the year among her 48 hits. In the circle, she finished with a 1.82 ERA over 131.0 innings of work, striking out 103 batters on the year en route to a 11-7 record.

MacKenzie Bowden was named a first team selection for the second consecutive year as well, after posting a 12-6 record for the Owls in 123.1 innings of work. She also recorded three saves, going the distance in 16 games for WWU on the year. Her opponents batting average of .186 was third in the league and 23rd-best in the NAIA, with her strikeout rate of 12.41 per nine innings good for ninth in the nation and nearly 1.5 better than her nearest league competition.

Lindsey LeCuru is also a two-time first team all-AMC selection, finishing the year with the second-best batting average on the team at .368. The leading scorer for the Owls with 39 runs on the year, she also led the team with a .592 slugging percentage behind 18 doubles - 18th in the NAIA - two triples and four home runs. She added five sacrifice hits on the year as well.

The final first team honoree for the Owls, Ilissa Facchini led the team in both batting average (.380) and on base percentage (.519), collecting 32 walks on the year to lead the league, adding four hit-by-pitches against only eight strikeouts in 121 at-bats. Facchini also led the Owls in runs batted in (35) and sacrifice hits (17) on the year.

Caroline Sicht was also named an all-AMC selection, earning honorable mention accolades. The freshman tied Facchini for the team RBI lead with 35, and posted the third-best batting average on the squad with a .365 mark. She grabbed 13 doubles, two triples and three home runs among her 54 hits on the year en route to a .541 slugging percentage, the third best on the team.

William Woods was also strong in the classroom, adding 15 Academic all-AMC honorees among 103 players in the league.
