Sedalia Murder Suspect Arrested
SEDALIA - Police arrested 44-year-old Daniel J. Maschger of Lee's Summit Thursday night for the murder of a Sedalia.
Maschger is charged with first degree murder, first degree burglary, and armed criminal action. His next court date has been set for September 14.
On Friday, neighbors said they saw Maschger's car parked in front of 76-year-old Rebekah Marcus' home earlier this week.
"He looked tired," Paul Bennett, who lives across the street from Marcus, said. "Maybe he was on something, I don't know, and that's when the two detectives came in."
Maschger was not a suspect at the time of the visit, but detectives and Bennett discussed his nervous and "fidgety" demeanor.
A neighbor found Marcus stabbed to death in her home Tuesday.
Police said according to the coroner's report, she not only had multiple stab wounds, but had also been strangled and had severe trauma to the head.
"This is one of the most gruesome and heinous crimes I have ever seen in my 21 years," Commander Larry Ward of the Sedalia Police Department said.
Maschger was arraigned on Friday afternoon.
