Senate Approves Naming Bridge in Honor of Musial
ST. LOUIS - The so-called "Stan Span" is almost a reality.
Democratic U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill of Missouri said Tuesday that the Senate has unanimously passed a bill to name a new Mississippi River bridge at St. Louis the Stan Musial Memorial Bridge in honor of the St. Louis Cardinals great.
The measure passed late Monday and now goes to the U.S. House.
Musial spent his entire 22-year with the Cardinals, leading the team to three World Series wins. He was a three-time most valuable player and seven-time batting champion.
Musial died in January after years of health problems. He was 92.
The new bridge along Interstate 70 is expected to open next year.
