Senior Citizens Gather
The new Senior Center in Capital Mall started welcoming guests this past Monday. It's been a busy week for appropriately named Senior Center which served about 150 visitors in just four days since its opening.
"We already have some regulars. Some people who were here Monday have been here every day," said administrator Brenda Doyle.
B.W. Robinson is one of those regulars.
"I come for a fine meal; good food, well prepared, served well. And secondly i come for the fellowship," he said.
B.W. enjoys spending time in the lively atmosphere with good company.
"Since I live alone, my wife is deceased and my children married and gone from home, it's a very desirable place for me to come," B.W. added.
The Central Missouri Area for Aging is responsible for all of the senior centers in Jefferson City. So when Hamilton Towers closed in April, it knew it had to quickly replace it to accommodate all of its guests. There are currently two other senior centers in Jefferson City that seniors can visit. But this new location is on the west side of town which is closer for people like B.W.
"I live in the west side of town. I live near West School. So this is relatively convenient for me," he explained.
The Center is a place to meet new friends or catch up with old ones. It is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and lunch is served from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
