JEFFERSON CITY - SAK construction will begin major sewer repairs and refaces all over the Jefferson City area, starting Monday.

Houses that are being impacted will be contacted by the city. This will not affect the current sewage use in the area, although brief glue or chemical smells could be present as the rehabilitation takes place.

Impacted areas:

  • 500 block of Aurora Ave.
  • 800 block of Crestmere Ct.
  • 1400block of Debra Ave.
  • 1000 block of Elizabeth St.
  • 200 block of Flora Dr.
  • 2000 block of Green Berry Rd.
  • 1600 block of Hough Park Rd.
  • 1100 block of Jobe Dr.
  • North side of McKay Park
  • 1100 block of Maplewood Ct.
  • 800 & 900 blocks of Southwest Blvd.
  • 900 block of Westwood Dr.

Chris Hollaway, a Jefferson City resident, walks his dog at McKay park every day and has noticed that there have already been a lot of changes to the park.

“Over the last couple of years or so, they have added larger rock to prevent erosion on the bank,” Hollaway said. “They have added about half a mile of trail, and they cut out the old asphalt and repaired it. There were some really bad spots, so they fixed it.”

Hollaway did not know of any future construction for the park, or the surrounding areas. This was the same for the majority of the Jefferson City residents I spoke to. No one knew about the construction.

However, Holladay was not too concerned about the future construction or the potential smell.

“We all pay for progress, you know, if we want something to get done, we have to make a mess before we progress, so I’m okay with it. It's going to be temporary, I hope,” Holladay said.

Holladay does not plan to stop going to the park and will continue to walk his dog.
