Sheriff: Man tried gouging out deputy's eyes after 90 mph chase
CALLAWAY COUNTY - The Callaway County Sheriff's Office said Monday a weekend traffic stop on Old Highway 54 ended in a high-speed pursuit and foot chase in which the suspect tried to gouge out the deputy's eyes.
The report said 29-year-old Clayton Craddock of Fulton wouldn't stop when a deputy tried to pull him over for speeding along Old Highway 54 and State Road NN.
The deputy said the chase exceeded speeds of 90 miles per hour before Craddock abandoned his vehicle and tried to run away.
When the deputy caught up and tried to make the arrest, the report said, Craddock tried to gouge out the deputy's eyes with his fingers, leaving the deputy with "minor injuries."
Additional units arrived and helped arrest Craddock, who deputies said was in possession of synthetic marijuana.
Deputies arrested Craddock on suspicion of DWI, second-degree assault, resisting arrest, possession of synthetic cannabinoids and several other charges.
