Shoppers Hit Dealerships for Fuel Efficient Cars
JEFFERSON CITY - Shoppers hit mid-Missouri dealerships looking to buy or trade in for a fuel efficient car. Riley Toyota in Jefferson City had ten Toyota Priuses on their lot two months ago. Now they have just two, and one they got two days ago. The Toyota Prius gets 48 miles per gallon in the city and 51 miles on the highway. Jefferson City residents Doug and Cindy Witt traded in their 2006 Chevy Trail Blazer for a 2010 Nissan Sentra.
"[The Trail Blazer] gets right around 13 miles a gallon...17 on the highway," Doug said. "We wanted to get something that gets a little more...around 20-25 miles a gallon...save a little bit more money."
The two passed up on the Prius because of their three children, and the Sentra's a little bit larger. Even so, car salesman Rick McDonald says the trade the Witts made is not unusual.
"Gas is always a deciding factor," McDonald said. "When you're driving in a sport utility be it a two wheele drive or a four wheel drive...a big six cylinder or a smalll V8, those are the things that make a decision more than anything."
Riley Toyota expects their two Priuses to be sold in the next couple of days. Toyota said Thursday though they will start making the Priuses once again in Japan.
