Soap Creek Bridge Replacement Work to Begin
MORGAN COUNTY - If the weather permits, work to replace the Route 5 bridge over Soap Creek will begin the week of Oct. 3, following the 2011 Apple Festival in Versailles. The bridge is located about a half mile north of Route P in Morgan County.
The entire bridge will be replaced and the work will take approximately 50 days to complete. The bridge will be completely closed during construction and traffic will be detoured around the work area using Routes 135 and J. Tractor-trailers and other large commercial vehicles should consider using other routes to get around the construction area, such as U.S. 54 or U.S. 65.
MoDOT has worked closely with the contractor to condense the work schedule as much as possible to minimize the impact to motorists. The department appreciates the cooperation and patience of the community in order to make these much needed improvements to Route 5.
The improvements are part of MoDOT's Safe & Sound Bridge Improvement Program, which will improve 802 of Missouri's worst bridges in five years - by the end of 2013. Ninety bridges are being replaced or repaired in the mid-Missouri area as a part of this program. So far, more than 500 bridges included in the program have been improved statewide.
