Sophie Cunningham earns another Southeastern Conference accolade
COLUMBIA - Missouri guard Sophie Cunningham won her fifth Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week award Tuesday.
Cunningham, a Rock Bridge High School alum, scored 24 points and added 10 rebounds for her third double-double of the season in a 69-55 victory at Auburn last Sunday in Missouri's only game of the week.
The 24-point perfomance outpaced her team-leading 13.3 points per game, which is also good for 11th overall in the SEC. Cunningham ranks second on Missouri with 2.9 assists per game and is tied for second in rebounding, averaging 5.6 per game.
No. 24 Missouri (21-6, 8-6 SEC) returned to the Associated Press Top 25 poll this week after a two-week absence in the rankings. The Tigers head to Lexington for a game with No. 14 Kentucky (19-6, 8-6 SEC) on Thursday. Both teams are part of a five-way tie for fourth place in the SEC women's basketball standings as of Tuesday evening, with regular season play wrapping up Sunday.
