South Farm Festival Offers Fall Fun
COLUMBIA - Fall fun and learning were the order of the day Saturday afternoon at the MU South Farm Showcase.
Events included a corn maze, hay bale maze, food, hayrides, live music, and even wine tasting for the adults.
Childrens chose one pumpkin to decorate and take home.
Various departments from the University of Missouri led educational events such as livestock demonstrations, gardening tips, and soil testing.
The most popular events were cockroach racing and bug tasting. Kris Simpson, an entomologist at MU, said she has been racing cockroaches for 20 years.
"It's very, very popular with the kids, especially the real young kids," Simpson says. "Not so much with the parents. Sometimes the parents are a little bit more squeamish, of course, than the kids are."
At the bug tasting booth, brave eaters chose from four different flavors of mealworms to sample.
