Southern Missouri Murder Suspect Dies
WEST PLAINS (AP) - A southern Missouri man charged with murder has died at a hospital after being found hanging in his jail cell.
The West Plains Daily Quill reports 33-year-old Daniel Norton died late Sunday at Ozarks Medical Center. Staff at the Howell County Jail in West Plains had found him unconscious in his cell sometime Friday.
Sheriff Mike Shannon says jail workers performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation until an ambulance arrived.
Norton, of West Plains, was being held on $1 million bail in the Feb. 12 stabbing death of 42-year-old Michael Tyler. Norton was awaiting trial on charges of second-degree murder and armed criminal action.
