MEXICO - Audrain County is holding a special election Tuesday, Nov. 8, and has three issues on the ballot. Public Health is striving for a tax to help with maintenance and operations. The property tax would be 25 cents on each one hundred dollars of assessed value.

Public Water Supply District No 1 wants $1 million in revenue bonds to expand and improve its waterworks system. The final issue on the ballot is Prop C, a tax increase for education funding.

Mexico Public Schools has already cut $1 million from its budget over the last three years. It expects a $700,000 decrease in funding from the state for next year. Mexico ranks already at the bottom of all North Central Missouri Conference schools in beginning teacher salary.

"There's a lot of things I want to do in my classroom and a lot of things I would want to do in my personal life that I don't because of the pay." Said Clarissa Taylor, a second year teacher at Mexico High School.

The election will take place Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
