Springfield man pleads guilty to robbery, assaulting officer
SPRINGFIELD (AP) - A Springfield man has pleaded guilty to robbery and assaulting a law enforcement officer.
The Springfield News-Leader reports 24-year-old David Lee Kerns pleaded guilty last week and will spend 120 days in a boot camp-style program.
According to a probable cause statement, Kerns robbed a Springfield store in July 2013 while armed with a BB gun. The statement says Kerns shook hands with one clerk after the robbery and asked another clerk for a hug.
In another case, police say Kerns attempted to rob another Springfield store by putting his hand under his shirt and pointing his finger like a gun. Police detained Kerns outside of store when he left because the clerk hit him with a baseball bat. Police say he bit an officer on the hand.
