Springfield May Ration Water
Meanwhile, rural residents worry that the drought may be tapping out wells, and well companies report an increase in the number of calls and the depth of wells they're drilling. City Utility says it's been pumping water almost continuously from Stockton Lake to Fellows and McDaniel lakes since July to help keep the two drinking water sources from dropping too low. Normally, spring rains help fill the lakes and lessen the need to run the Stockton pumps. CU says it might need to implement its emergency water conservation plan for the first time ever. That plan takes effect when total water storage drops to 50% or lower. On Wednesday, the lakes were just under 69% full and continuing to drop.
