St. Louis children launch campaign to clean up parks
ST. LOUIS (AP) - Children and teenagers in the St. Louis area have launched a campaign to fix and clean up dilapidated neighborhood parks.
The Youth Council of Old North wants the city to fix slides, drains, lawns and basketball courts at areas like Strodtman Park, which has been labeled unsafe and run-down by children in the area.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports children say large pieces of broken concrete jut out of the ground. They say a color plastic climbing gym is broken and smashed in multiple places.
The group is circulating a petition to neighbors that will be submitted to the St. Louis parks commissioner, whom they have a meeting with next month.
