St. Louis County Couple Pleads Guilty to Counterfeiting Scheme
ST. LOUIS (AP) - A husband and wife from St. Louis County face sentencing in December after pleading guilty to producing and passing counterfeit checks, causing a loss to businesses of more than $100,000.
Anthony Clark and Lillian Watson, both 26, pleaded guilty Monday. Court documents show the crimes occurred from July 2009 through June 2010. Federal prosecutors say that sometimes, the couple would split proceeds with the "check cashier" and an unnamed co-conspirator, and sometimes they would cash the checks themselves. All told, more than 100 counterfeit checks were cashed.
