St. Louis County Executive to Face Challenger
CLAYTON (AP) - St. Louis County's long-time chief executive can expect to face at least one challenger next year in the Democratic primary election.
KMOX-AM reports that Councilman Steve Stenger plans to run against County Executive Charlie Dooley in the August 2014 primary. Dooley has held the job for a decade.
Stenger plans to officially announce his candidacy on Tuesday. That announcement comes as the county faces an FBI inquiry over a $3.7 million crime lab contract and the recent suicide of a top county administrator suspected of embezzling millions of dollars through a fictitious company he created that provided leased computers to the county.
St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney Bob McCulloch cited those and other concerns in recently calling for Dooley to step down.
