St. Louis Police Chief Seeks Flexibility
ST. LOUIS - St. Louis Police Chief Sam Dotson is seeking increased focus on troubled areas of the city.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that Dotson is asking the Board of Police Commissioners for permission to dismantle and reorganize some specialized units and accept donations to increase police efforts in crime hot spots.
Dotson is seeking to reassign 28 officers attached to the Rapid Deployment Unit to work overlay shifts in three districts with high rates of crime. He also wants to relocate six gang unit detectives to police headquarters under a single command.
Dotson says hot-spot policing will give the department flexibility when trouble spots pop up.
