St. Peters man leads deputies on multi-county pursuit
COLUMBIA — A stolen vehicle case turned into a chase across multiple counties for Callaway County deputies.
In a press release, the sheriff's office said deputies attempted to stop Robert Roberts, 27, Monday night at the County Road 211 and US Highway 54 intersection in Kingdom City, after determining he was operating a stolen vehicle.
Roberts didn't stop the vehicle and instead drove away with deputies and Missouri Highway patrol troopers in pursuit, according to a press release. He continued eastbound on US Highway 54 into Mexico in Audrain County then entered westbound onto US Highway 54, leading the pursuit back into Callaway County.
Investigators said deputies eventually captured Roberts on South US Highway 54, just south of State Road B in Auxvasse. He was transported to Callaway County Jail and booked for felony resisting arrest, tampering with a motor vehicle, and driving with a revoked license.
Deputies said he was initially found by Fulton City police, but they discontinued pursuit after he left city limits.
He is currently being held without bond.
