Officers said they want to to make sure the problem does not continue.
Police said breaking into your car starts when you decide on a parking spot. You should always park in a well-lit area, where people can see your car. It is important to roll up your windows and never leave anything important where people can see them. Instead, you should lock valuables in the trunk. Police said if you do not, it is an open invitation for a thief.
One police officer said this time of year is prime time for break-ins.

The other part of it is there is an increase in victims with the students coming back to school, which always increases that chance also," said Sgt. John White of the Columbia Police Department.
Police said if you see anything suspicious do not be afraid to call them.
