Students from St. Louis named Rhodes scholars
ST. LOUIS (AP) — Two students from Missouri have been named Rhodes scholars to study at the University of Oxford in England.
The Rhodes Trust said in a release Sunday that Kirk Smith, from St. Louis, and Olivia Klevorn, who is from Chicago but grew up in St. Louis, are among the 32 U.S. students awarded the 2017 scholarships.
The Trust said Smith is a senior at the University of Tulsa, where he majors in mechanical engineering and has studied clean energy research. He plans to study engineering science at Oxford.
Klevorn, a senior at Yale majoring in anthropology, has studied the problem of disinvestment in low-income minority communities and intends to pursue socio-legal studies at Oxford.
